SAIL Mission

SAIL was established in the spring of 1991 as a network of cooperating libraries that provide information and professional support to each other, to scientific investigators, and to the general public with some restrictions. In the fall of 1991, SAIL was granted regional group status in the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC).

SAIL Membership

Because SAIL is an IAMSLIC regional group, IAMSLIC membership is a prerequisite for SAIL membership. SAIL includes marine science information professionals who are IAMSLIC members from the Gulf Coast states in the southeastern United States, the Atlantic Coast of North America—including central and eastern Canada, Bermuda, Bahamas, Caribbean, eastern Mexico, and Panama.

SAIL Annual Conference

The annual conference is held at various locations in the region and hosted by a SAIL member or members. The host librarian plans the local arrangements and the program with the assistance and suggestions of other members. The host invites speakers to address issues of interest and vendors to discuss their products and services for libraries and librarians.

SAIL Website
www.mrl.cofc.edu/sail

The College of Charleston in Charleston, SC hosts the SAIL web site. SAIL member Helen Ivy, Librarian at the Marine Resources Library, Charleston, SC, posts material and updates to the site. The web site includes the SAIL mission, by-laws, membership directory, conference programs, FAQ's, links to libraries, and links to the parent organization, IAMSLIC.

SAIL Discussion List

The SAIL discussion list is hosted at the University of Georgia and administered by Duncan McClusky, CAES Tifton Campus Library, Tifton, GA. The discussion list serves as a vehicle for sharing information, requesting interlibrary loans, reprints, and reference verification. It is a means by which members can exchange ideas and duplicate library material. To subscribe to the list click here.

SAIL Membership Directory

The membership directory is available on the SAIL web site. Every effort is made to
include complete information
about each member including name, institution, address, country, email, phone, fax, Ariel address, URL, and OCLC symbol.

Membership Application

SAIL is a regional group of the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC), so membership in IAMSLIC is a prerequisite for becoming a member of SAIL. Visit the IAMSLIC Web page to learn the advantages of IAMSLIC membership.
