Eligibility
Through Interlibrary Loan (ILL), students, faculty, and staff in The Graduate School - College of Charleston marine biology program or Grice Marine Laboratory (GML), employees of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Marine Resources Division (SCDNR/MRD), employees of the Center for Coastal Environmental Health and Biomolecular Research Laboratory Charleston (NOS/CCEHBRC), and employees of the Hollings Marine Laboratory (HML) may obtain books, articles, and other materials not available at the Marine Resources Library(MRL). College of Charleston undergraduate students and students in other graduate programs should place their Interlibrary Loan requests with the Addlestone Library.
Submitting ILL Requests
Users from GML, SCDNR/MRD, CCEHBRC, and HML may submit Interlibrary Loan requests electronically through their ILLiad account by following the ILL link above. If you are using ILL for the first time, you will need to set up an ILLiad account by following the ILL link above. Please fill out requests completely. Be sure to give the source of your citation for the requested item. The librarian may limit users to ten requests at a time if necessary.
Picking up ILL Materials
Be sure to include your email address so that we can contact you when your material arrives. You will receive many of the journal articles through electronic delivery. You may pick up print materials at any time from the ILL Pickup Shelf located in the Marine Resources Library. Photocopies are yours to keep. Loaned materials must be returned to MRL by the due date given on the book sleeve.
Returning ILL Materials
Please return loaned materials on or before the due date to the Marine Resources Library. Return the materials to the Interlibrary Loan Office in Room 180 (Bldg. 8) or at the MRL circulation desk.
ILL Material Costost
Users from The Graduate School - College of Charleston may borrow Interlibrary Loan materials at no cost to the individual. Users from SCDNR/MRD, CCEHBRC, and HML may incur charges assessed by the lending library; therefore, these users must include a cost limit and the required authorization information on requests forms.
Allowing Time for Reciept
Interlibrary Loan generally takes anywhere from two days to a month. Materials that are available locally may be obtained in a few days. If you need materials by a certain date, specify this on your request form, and we will make every effort to meet your needs. Please place your requests early. Not all materials are available for Interlibrary Loan; availability of material is at the discretion of the lending library.
Renewing
Should you need to use loaned materials beyond the due date given of the book sleeve, you must contact the MRL staff prior to the due date to request a renewal. Renewal is at the discretion of the lending library. The staff will notify you with the new due date once the request is granted or denied.
